Cashiers Community Fund Awards Grants Totaling $137,400

The Cashiers Community Fund is pleased to announce $137,400 in grants to nonprofits serving Cashiers and the surrounding region.  Since 1994, the Cashiers Community Fund has awarded $1,185,285 to projects serving the Cashiers community.

“It took more than twenty years and the support of many generous people and The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina to build a permanent charitable resource for the Cashiers region,” said Advisory Board Chair T. Wayne Davis.  “This recent slate of Cashiers Community Fund grants supports broad community needs and responds to a diverse selection of nonprofits.  We are here to support these organizations that benefit our friends and neighbors and meet our community’s needs now and in the future.”

The recent grants include:

Adults Working & Advocating for Kids Empowerment, Inc. (AWAKE) - $6,500 for services for Child Abuse Victims at Jackson County’s Child Advocacy Center.

Blue Ridge Community Health Services - $6,500 to support initial startup costs for onsite pharmacy services for Jackson County’s medically vulnerable patients.

Blue Ridge Mountains Health Project, Inc. - $10,000 to support personnel expenses associated with its Hygiene Program.

Blue Ridge School Education Foundation, Inc. - $9,400 to purchase two Promethean ActivPanels for the Early College. 

Boys & Girls Club of the Plateau - $10,000 to continue Project Learn, its flagship program helping youth ages 6 to 16 achieve academic success.

Cashiers Valley Preschool, Inc. - $10,000 to repair and resurface its parking lot and student drop-off lane, as well as repair cracked sidewalks.

Cashiers-Highlands Humane Society - $6,500 toward the renovation and construction of the new Feline Adoption & Animal Care Center.

Community Care Clinic of Highlands-Cashiers, Inc. - $10,000 to support general operating costs for the clinic that provides free health care services to uninsured, low-income residents.

Fishes & Loaves Food Pantry Inc. - $8,000 to purchase food to be distributed through food boxes to those living in poverty.   

Friends of Panthertown - $10,000 to support volunteer coordination and training, conduct stewardship outreach, and purchase essential tools, materials and safety equipment needed for trail maintenance.

The Hampton School - $10,000 to support operating costs of the early child development program serving children under the age of three.

Highlands-Cashiers Land Trust - $6,500 to support the Kids in Nature Program, a component of its education program.

The Martin Lipscomb Performing Arts Center (PAC) - $4,000 to support its Youth Theater Program.

Summit Charter School - $10,000 to purchase sound equipment and a 3-D printer, as well as support professional development.

The Bascom - $10,000 to support its Cashiers Community Education Initiative that delivers art education and S.T.E.A.M. (Science Technology Engineering Arts Mathematics) cross-disciplinary enrichment through the school systems and local nonprofit organizations.

The Village Green- $10,000 toward the construction of a cultural events and community activities facility on the green.

The local volunteer Advisory Board works to raise awareness of the Cashiers Community Fund and to build assets for the future.  The board members are: Lisa Bates, Jeanne Builder, Charlie Coker, T. The Cashiers Community Fund supports projects improving the quality of life in greater Cashiers and benefitting the broad community and its residents. CCF provides grants between $2,500-$10,000 to nonprofit organizations and public agencies for charitable purposes, including programmatic needs, capital campaigns and operating expenses.
