Rutherford County Endowment Awards $81,360 in Grants

(May 2019) Eleven grants totaling $81,360 were recently awarded to nonprofits by the Rutherford County Endowment, bringing total grantmaking since the Endowment’s inception to more than $1.4 million. The Endowment, an affiliate of The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina (CFWNC), was established in 1996 by local residents as a resource for charitable efforts that benefit Rutherford County.

The grants include:

Basics Christian Ministries was awarded $5,000 for renovations and improvements to its building.

Carolina Cross Connection was awarded $5,300 for building supplies to help low-income households with necessary repairs or improvements.

Community Pet Center was awarded $4,560 to provide free pet food to low-income families.

Forest City Housing Authority was awarded $6,000 for a domestic violence education and support program.

Pisgah Legal Services was awarded $8,500 for legal aid programs that benefit children.

Rutherford Housing Partnership was awarded $10,000 for a week-long day camp to introduce construction skills and trades to 4th – 6th grade girls.

Rutherford County was awarded $8,000 to support the Farmers Market.

Rutherford County Habitat for Humanity was awarded $10,000 for renovations to its office building.

Rutherford County Library was awarded $4,000 for a nutrition and gardening program.

Rutherford County Senior Center was awarded $10,000 to provide meals to seniors.

Yokefellow Service Center was awarded $10,000 for crisis assistance to low-income people. 

“Through the support of friends and neighbors, we are able to fund a wide variety of nonprofits and projects and can continue to meet changing needs over time,” said Advisory Board Chair John Condrey. “We are very grateful to everyone who has helped to build a permanent charitable resource for Rutherford County. We welcome additional gifts to the Fund that will enable us to support even more local programs with local dollars.”

The local volunteer Advisory Board works to raise awareness of the Rutherford County Endowment and to build assets for the future. Advisory Board members are: John Condrey (Chair), Jane Alexander Bell, Lucille Dalton, Jackie Hampton, Sally Lesher, Keven McCammon, Karen Moore, Janice Paris, Mike Tanner and Judy Toney.
