ADVANCING THE ARTS

  • Valleytown Cultural Arts and Historical Society - $25,000 to upgrade facilities at a historic building that is used for community and arts performances in Andrews.

ASSISTING PEOPLE IN NEED

  • Boys & Girls Club of Transylvania County - $25,000 to implement a science-based program designed to help young people become more active and healthy.
  • Children and Family Resource Center of Henderson County - $25,000 to continue a collaborative community effort that identifies critical needs of children and addresses them through governmental and private agency partnerships.
  • Homeward Bound of Asheville - $20,000 to expand the hours of the A HOPE Center and the services offered to those who are homeless.
  • Jewish Community Center of Asheville - $25,000 to offer culturally sensitive social services to families in Buncombe, Henderson and Transylvania counties.
  • MANNA FoodBank - $25,000 to decrease hunger by increasing the number of individuals and families receiving food stamps in Buncombe, Henderson, Avery, Cherokee and Macon counties.
  • McDowell County Senior Center - $25,000 to purchase food-preparation equipment for the A.C. Bud Hogan Community Building, a new center that will serve as a nutrition site for seniors in Old Fort.
  • Mountain Area Child and Family Center - $25,000 for an early childhood nutrition program that will increase the consumption of high-quality food and serve as a replicable model for other childcare centers in our region.
  • Pisgah Legal Services - $25,000 to continue regional work to remove barriers that prevent victims of domestic violence from becoming self-sufficient.
  • Rutherford LIFECare - $25,000 to expand adult day care services for families in Rutherford and Polk counties.
  • The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club of Buncombe County - $25,000 to prepare teenagers in Black Mountain and Swannanoa for the future by teaching career exploration and financial-management skills.


BUILDING COMMUNITY AND ECONOMIC VITALITY

  • Affordable Housing Coalition of Asheville and Buncombe County - $25,000 to develop an employer-assisted housing program in Buncombe County that will provide greater affordable housing options and stability for employees.

  • Graham Revitalization Economic Action Team - $25,000 for staff to coordinate volunteers and address economic development opportunities in Graham County.

  • Land-of-Sky Regional Council - $25,000 for continued development of a regional "green" infrastructure plan to guide future growth for Madison, Buncombe, Henderson and Transylvania counties.

  • Rural Southern Voice for Peace - $25,000 to continue working with local churches and engage citizens in discussions about caring for mountain resources in Yancey, Madison and Buncombe counties.

  • Western Carolina Community Action - $25,000 to address emerging affordable and workforce housing opportunities in Transylvania County.


ENHANCING THE ENVIRONMENT

  • Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy - $25,000 to support planned giving programs for local land trusts members of the Blue Ridge Forever collaborative.

  • Western Carolina Pacesetters - $25,000 for an environmental education center to serve youth from Cherokee, Clay, Macon, Swain, and Graham counties.


PROMOTING QUALITY HEALTH

  • Addiction Recovery Institute - $25,000 to address mental health and substance abuse disorders for people in Polk County.

  • Asheville Buncombe Institute for Parity Achievement - $25,000 to provide education, support and screenings that will reduce cardiovascular disease among African-American women.

  • Black Mountain Pastoral Care and Counseling Center - $24,900 for a new center that will provide mental health services.

  • Community Clinic of Rutherford County - $24,300 to serve low-income, uninsured and medically indigent diabetic patients.

  • Mountain Area Health Education Center - $25,000 to integrate mental health and substance abuse services into primary medical practices and clinics for uninsured adults and children in Haywood County.


IMPROVING EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

  • City of Asheville - $25,000 for staff to place students in meaningful public-sector internships.
  • Communities in Schools of Rutherford County - $25,000 to expand a county-wide, in-school mentoring program.

  • KidSenses Children’s InterACTIVE Museum - $25,000 to bring a traveling planetarium and science-based programs to elementary school students in six WNC counties.

  • Madison County Schools - $25,000 toward the home-building skill development program at Madison High School.

  • YMCA of Western North Carolina - $25,000 to provide at-risk youth with an intensive after-school program designed to meet specific education needs and behavior management issues.
