Community Foundation of Western North Carolina

Establish a Fund

More than 750 charitable funds make up The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina. Each fund has a unique purpose that reflects the wishes of its donor. Each gift made from these funds supports an important charitable cause; every grant helps improve the quality of life in our mountain region.

A new fund can be established with a simple agreement, usually in one meeting. Almost any type of charitable giving can be accomplished through a fund at The Community Foundation, whether you want to support a specific organization or a broad range of interests. Grants can be made to any nonprofit organization in the name of your fund or anonymously.

Sheryl Aikman, Vice President, Development, or Pat Smith, President, can tell you more, or review the types of funds you might establish:

Affiliate - supports a designated WNC community
Designated - assists one or more specific nonprofit organizations
Donor Advised - facilitates philanthropy with a high level of donor involvement
Field of Interest - supports broadly defined areas of charitable interest
Organization Fund - provides permanent support for a specific nonprofit
Scholarship - supports education or recognition of deserving individuals
Unrestricted - offers broad flexibility for addressing changing needs
