2015 recipient of the 4-year-renewable Nathaniel Ellis Cannady, Jr. Scholarship
Upon graduating from Hendersonville High School, I am headed to NC State University to further my education. At Hendersonville I was very involved – I was a three sport athlete, President of both Key Club and National Honor Society, member of HOSA and FCA, and an active volunteer in the community. In college, I will continue my involvement in extracurricular activities, without sacrificing my academic endeavors. I will be attending the College of Engineering, where I plan to major in biomedical engineering. Fascinated by current advances in medical technology, I cannot wait to conduct research and discover even better methods in the field of medicine. After I attain my Bachelor’s degree, I will either pursue a Master’s in biomedical engineering or perhaps attend medical school. I don’t want my career to be merely a job; I wish to seek a career that impacts the lives of others. At NC State, I will also be a part of the University Scholars Program, a program which works to foster the growth of its students through academic rigor, leadership opportunities and service to others. In addition, I look forward to joining the Campus Crusade for Christ (CRU) and participating in countless intramural sports. By investing in my future, The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina has provided me with the opportunity to pursue my educational dreams. I cannot express enough gratitude to the award sponsors and committee for allowing students, like myself, to never stop learning.
