The Mountain Air Pilots Association (MAPA) was founded to promote aviation safety at the Mountain
Air community in Yancey County, and to contribute to the education and welfare of the larger local
MAPA holds seminars on flight safety and makes safety improvements to the Mountain Air airport. In
addition, the organization is committed to raising funds for charities. A number of the pilots also
participate in Angel Flight, an organization that flies patients to get health care, and flies donor organs to
places where they are needed.
MAPA award recipients have included the Appalachian Therapeutic Rider Center, Carolina Mountain
Literacy Festival, the Mitchell-Yancey Partnership for Children, Mountain Heritage High School Music
Program, and the Yancey County Public Library.
With the Cal and Carol Peddy Memorial Scholarship, MAPA seeks to provide scholarship assistance to
Mountain Heritage High School graduating seniors wishing to further their education.

The Community Foundation scholarships will be awarded without regard to age, race, national origin, ethnicity, gender, disability, sexual orientation, political affiliation, religious belief, or any other characteristic protected by law.
To apply, students must complete an application online. The application, with required attachments, must be submitted online on or before the deadline.
