Maria enjoyed a long career in publishing but said goodbye to the corporate world when she accepted a position with the Children's Book Council, the trade association for children's book publishers, in 1990. Now happily ensconced in a nonprofit environment, Maria is glad to work with students, parents, high school counselors, and college financial aid personnel to administer and facilitate programs that help the region's young people continue their education. Originally from Havana, Cuba, Maria lived most of her life in the New York area, and has been fortunate to call Asheville, North Carolina, home since 1996.
