Vision: Strengthen human service nonprofits serving people in need in Western North Carolina.

Goal: Work with donors and affiliates to address critical needs facing our region's most marginalized populations.

Grants

CFWNC supports people in need through a grant cycle funded in part by the Janirve Legacy Fund, our affiliates, generous fundholders and discretionary dollars.  In November, CFWNC awarded $943,773 in 57 grants to nonprofits in 18 counties across Western North Carolina.  The next grant cycle will begin in August 2014.

CFWNC offers Janirve SUN grants of up to $10,000 to assist nonprofit organizations experiencing an unforeseen crisis that impacts their ability to continue to provide critical services. With a relatively small amount of funding, SUN grants help an organization address a one-time, unbudgeted and time-sensitive emergency that will enhance or preserve the ability of the organization to meet its mission

In addition to these Janirve Legacy Fund grant programs, funded from our discretionary dollars and with generous support from our affiliates and fundholders, the Foundation manages other grant programs that support people in need including:

  • The Melvin R. Lane Fund grant program, promoting access to quality health care, safe and affordable housing and supportive social services for the youth, elderly and disabled people living in Western North Carolina.
  • The Women for Women giving circle grant program that makes smart, substantial grants to nonprofits that work to increase the economic security of women and girls in our region.
  • The Biltmore Lake Charitable Fund and the Ramble Charitable Fund that support projects in designated areas.
